We are looking for a Head of Laboratory at Biolyz, a leading saliva‑based biomarker testing service. The role involves managing a small team of laboratorists while maintaining hands‑on oversight of LC‑MS operations.
About Biolyz: Biolyz offers daily saliva testing with a 24‑hour turnaround for over 125 biomarkers. We partner with professional athletes and teams to predict injuries and optimise performance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a laboratory team of 2‑4 technicians and LC‑MS scientists, ensuring efficient workflows and high‑quality results.
- Hands‑on troubleshooting and maintenance of LC‑MS systems.
- Oversee LC‑MS operations and support troubleshooting and method optimisation.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, maintain quality management systems and satisfy regulatory and health and safety requirements.
- Supervise data analysis and interpretation, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Manage laboratory resources, inventory and LIMS documentation.
- Train and mentor junior staff, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
- Coordinate schedules and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in analytical workflows.
Qualifications:
- Master’s (5‑7 years experience in private sector) or PhD (2‑3 years experience) in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Bioanalytics or a related field.
- Proven experience leading a laboratory team in commercial or research settings.
- Strong expertise in LC‑MS techniques, including micro‑LC, troubleshooting, method development and validation of targeted LC‑MS methods.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and external partners.
- Detail‑oriented approach focused on quality, compliance and efficiency.
- Hands‑on experience with LIMS and laboratory inventory management.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience with Shimadzu and Sciex hardware/software is a plus.
