We are looking for a Fluidics Engineer to help us push the boundaries of pressure-driven microfluidic control, enabling next-generation life science and biotech applications.
About the Role
You will take ownership of the design, integration and characterisation of precision pressure and flow-based microfluidic systems, from concept through to validated prototypes. Working at the interface of mechanical, electronic and software disciplines, you will architect and deliver systems capable of sub-microlitre control, fast response, and robust repeatability. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who thrives on building, testing and iterating, bringing together the art of micro-valving, sensing and control with solid experimental rigour.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement pressure-driven microfluidic systems capable of stable flow at nanolitre–microlitre scales.
- Develop micro-valve and pneumatic routing architectures, including solenoid manifolds and flow control networks.
- Integrate and calibrate flow and pressure sensors for closed-loop control, ensuring sub-µL dispense precision.
- Tune and validate PID control loops for flow and pressure stability.
- Design, model, and fabricate microfluidic manifolds and chips using CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
- Build and test prototypes using rapid fabrication methods (soft lithography, laser cutting, CNC micro-milling, polymer moulding).
- Characterise system performance using fluorescence, imaging, or gravimetric analysis to quantify precision and reproducibility.
- Collaborate with electronics and firmware teams to ensure seamless system integration and data acquisition.
- Document test results and calibration data in line with GMP design controls.
About You
We are looking for someone who combines deep technical expertise with curiosity and practical problem-solving. Ideally, you have:
- Expertise in microfluidic pressure/flow system design — especially pneumatic control at µL scale.
- Experience building and validating valve manifolds or flow routing networks.
- Strong integration skills across sensors, actuators, and control electronics.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve sub-2 µL dispense precision with repeatable, validated data.
- Hands‑on prototyping experience, from CAD design to fabrication and testing.
- Analytical mindset, able to design and execute experiments for flow accuracy and stability.
- Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics.
- Familiarity with GMP materials, process compliance and traceability.
- Excellent cross-disciplinary communication with software, hardware and analytical teams.
Why Join Us?
As part of our collaborative, innovation-focused team, you will help shape the next generation of life science automation systems. This role gives you the autonomy to innovate, the support to deliver and the satisfaction of seeing your designs enable real scientific breakthroughs. We believe in creativity, precision and seamless integration, and we are excited to see how your expertise can help us push the boundaries even further.
