Bioliberty is on a mission to give everyone the best chance at recovery from a mobility-limiting condition or injury—so they can reclaim their independence and quality of life. Founded in 2020, we have raised $7 million from a blend of public and private investors and successfully launched our first product, Lifehub Clinic, to the US healthcare market in May 2025. This is your opportunity to build technology with real-world impact, directly improving patient outcomes and helping clinicians to deliver more engaging, effective rehabilitation experiences.
This role can be fully remote within the UK or office-based at our headquarters in the National Robotarium in Edinburgh—a world-leading hub for robotics, AI, and autonomous systems.
This position will have the following responsibilities:
- Android Platform development: Own the building and maintenance of the backend and front end of patient-focused software initiatives. This is currently an Android application using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, combined with a serverless backend built with AWS and Typescript. We want to expand our patient population by implementing brand new therapy functionality, as well as visualising the behaviour and recovery of patients in their rehab journey.
- CI/CD pipelines: Support automated build, test and deployment processes to ensure seamless release cycles to our clients.
- Collaboration: Work with our other engineering teams and leads to build a robust tech stack that supports our clinician web portal, unity games, firmware and hardware.
- Innovation: Help drive the evolution of our rehabilitation tools and monitoring by integrating clinical standards into the latest modern Android tech stack.
- Cross-org Engagement: Partner with product teams, patients, clinicians, and executives to improve the user interface and data reporting features based on real-world needs.
- Quality & Security: Implement solutions that ensure the reliability and security of patient data, and that meet global software and medical regulatory standards and practices.
Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years in Android development, with a solid background in designing and deploying robust applications.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills with modern Android development practices, server-side technologies, and API integrations.
- Eye for Design: Experience in developing products that are user-friendly and easy to use with Jetpack Compose.
- Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a track record of working effectively across multiple teams. Experience working with a code review process.
- Adaptability: Thrive in a dynamic startup setting, embracing agile methodologies and evolving priorities.
