Global Commodity Specialist (Metals – Instruments)

Summary: Leading the metals commodity globally for Diagnostic and Life Science instrumentation, partnering with manufacturing, R&D, and business leaders to provide strategic sourcing expertise for day‑to‑day operations and product road-map planning.

The role supports the plastics and fluidics commodities as well.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Developing the global preferred supplier network, driving major material‑related productivity projects, and identifying new suppliers.
  • Partnering with site procurement teams to drive supplier performance and cultivate redundancy and resiliency across the instrument supply chain.
  • Identifying key suppliers, evaluating and negotiating to deliver continuous cost savings.
  • Risk management: defining risk and contract concepts and driving risk‑reduction activities including alternative sourcing.
  • Supplier management: organizing regular business reviews and rating suppliers on defined KPIs (performance, quality, cost, technology road‑map).
  • New product introduction: supporting R&D and manufacturing through pilot to full‑scale production and M&A due diligence.
  • Data analysis: compiling spend data by site, supplier and technology and recommending optimization.
  • Technical acumen: maintaining deep understanding of fluidics commodity and evaluating alternative vendors and materials.

Basic qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Supply Chain or a related engineering discipline.
  • Prior expertise with metals commodity sourcing.
  • Contracting/supply agreement experience.

Preferred qualifications

  • MS in engineering, Supply Chain or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Experience in a biotech organization.
  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of SAP and ERP/MRP systems a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
