Launched in 2019, Biodiverse Consulting has grown rapidly to become one of the UK’s leading providers of biodiversity and ecology consultancy to the built environment and construction world. We work with a range of national clients (including major retailers, housebuilders, utilities providers and major charities) to enhance nature and biodiversity. Our 28-person team is made up of experienced environmental experts and support staff who are committed to exemplary and sustainable placemaking that benefits communities, people and nature. Our head office is located in a stunning Grade II listed building in Newcastle, and in 2025 we expanded with the opening of new offices in Kent.

We are currently seeking a Finance Manager to join our team on a part-time (22.5 hours per week) permanent basis. Alongside the MD and Finance Officer, you will manage our established efficient financial systems and develop future financial and project management systems and solutions in preparation for expansion. You will bring your own extensive experience, demonstrable skills and knowledge to our growing team.

Role Summary

To deliver management of the full financial process (including management accounts, forecasts & budgeting) and day-to-day operations of accounts and finance for Biodiverse Consulting working alongside our highly competent Finance Officer. We anticipate that, with development, this role will evolve into a leadership position with active involvement in strategic decision-making. This role is designed as an excellent development opportunity as the position is ideal for a part-qualified accountant looking to expand their expertise while continuing or completing their qualification. Working alongside the Managing Director, you will play a key role in shaping and implementing robust financial systems that support our ambitious growth strategy. This comes at a time when we are experiencing significant expansion across our business, client base, and service offering.

You will work with clients, colleagues and collaborators in a professional, competent and friendly manner and deliver work within and adhering to Biodiverse Consulting’s framework of policies and procedures.

Role Responsibilities

  • Preparation of statutory accounts and liaison with auditors
  • Cashflow reporting and forecasting
  • Supporting all internal departments on finance related departments
  • Credit control
  • Tax Compliance (PAYE, N.I., VAT and Corporation Tax)
  • Client/service profitability analysis
  • Support to Finance Officer
  • Payroll (either directly or through sub-contractor)
  • Ad hoc analysis as required
  • Reporting to Managing Director
  • Line responsibility for Finance Officer

Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiar with month end reporting and processes
  • New system design and implementation
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and financial software packages

  • Hours: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week
  • Location: Hybrid, must commute to Newcastle office 1-2 days per week
