Biocomposites is an international medical devices company that engineers, manufactures, and markets world leading products for use in infection management in bone and soft tissue.

Based in Keele, UK, it has global operations across Europe, USA, Argentina, Canada, China, and India.

Biocomposites is a world leader in the development of innovative calcium compounds and bone cements for surgical use.

Its products regenerate bone and target infection risks across a variety of specialties, including musculoskeletal infection, orthopaedics, trauma, spine, foot and ankle, podiatry, and sports injuries.

Biocomposites products are now used in over one million procedures per annum and sold in more than 100 countries around the world.

Job Summary

Responsible for sourcing goods and services across the group, developing and managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and identifying new suppliers and products.

Ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality and on-time delivery.

Supports operational objectives and business growth through effective purchasing strategies, in line with company policies, quality standards, and commercial targets.

Location & Working pattern

Trentham-Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm (35hpw).

Fixed Term Contract:12 months from start date.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and develop a procurement team
  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to support business objectives and balance risk
  • Source, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers to improve quality, cost, and service.
  • Build, manage, and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service level agreements.
  • Procure goods and services while ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and conduct regular supplier business reviews.
  • Identify and deliver cost saving initiatives without compromising quality or service.
  • Manage purchasing budgets and support financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Work closely with production, operations, IT, finance, and warehouse teams to forecast demand and maintain stock availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities to prevent shortages or excess stock.
  • Resolve supplier issues relating to quality, delivery, or commercial disputes.
  • Analyse purchasing data, market trends, geo – political developments and supplier performance to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare procurement reports and present purchasing performance to senior management.
  • Educate and train wider business on procure to pay process
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and drive continuous improvement within the procurement function
  • Support business growth by securing reliable supply chains and sourcing new products and services.
  • Manage procurement risks, including supply disruptions & price fluctuations, through contingency planning & supplier diversification.
  • Act as delegate in absence of the Group Supply Chain Manager

Essential requirements

  • Bachelor Degree
  • CIPS qualification
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 regulations
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing
  • Available for a 12-month contract.
  • Minimum 2 years managerial experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • ERP experience and digital transformation (Oracle/SAP/Epicor).
  • Experience of marketplace procurement on boarding and execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate / advanced Microsoft Project skills
  • Proactive and can manage multiple tasks
  • Able to prioritize
  • Car Driver
