JOB SUMMARY: The Facilities Technician will be responsible for general building upkeep and routine maintenance, ensuring the site remains safe, functional, and presentable. This role also provides hands-on support for HVAC/air-conditioning systems, basic electrical troubleshooting, and coordination with specialist contractors when needed. The ideal candidate is a practical, multi-skilled problem-solver committed to maintaining a high-quality workplace environment.

REPORTS TO: Senior Service Engineer

LOCATION & WORKING PATTERN: Keele office. Role would also cover Trentham, IC5 and IC3. Standard working hours (e.g. Mon-Fri, 8.00 – 16.00, 35hpw) with flexibility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine building maintenance to ensure a safe and well-presented environment.
  • Conduct inspections of facility systems and address issues proactively.
  • Support HVAC/air-conditioning maintenance, including basic troubleshooting and filter changes.
  • Assist with minor electrical tasks such as diagnosing faults and replacing fixtures.
  • Coordinate and oversee external contractors for specialised repairs or installations.
  • Manage and prioritise maintenance requests from staff and building users.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies needed for day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards within the facility.
  • Carry out general repair and upkeep tasks across interior and exterior areas.
  • Document maintenance activities and contribute to continuous improvement of facility processes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic maintenance or trade-related training (e.g., general building maintenance, handyman skills).
  • Hands-on experience with general repairs, routine inspections, and basic HVAC or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to carry out repairs safely and to a high standard.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to issues quickly.
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks safely.
