BioChek is now seeking a Principal R&D Scientist to join its growing R&D team in Bracknell. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced scientist with strong ELISA development expertise to play a key role in assay development, project leadership, and technical mentoring within a collaborative and innovation-driven environment.
The Role
As Principal R&D Scientist, you will lead and support a range of R&D activities focused on ELISA maintenance, assay development, and scientific investigation. You will take ownership of projects from planning through to reporting, while collaborating across departments and supporting junior team members. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of diagnostic technologies used globally within the veterinary and animal health sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, analyse, and report on scientific experiments
- Lead R&D projects with minimal supervision and in line with SOPs
- Support ELISA assay maintenance, optimisation, and development
- Review processes and procedures to improve workflow and reduce errors
- Process and interpret experimental data, presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Provide technical guidance and support across departments
- Support protein purification, antigen processing, and conjugation activities
- Troubleshoot assay and production-related technical issues
- Train, mentor, and support R&D Technicians
- Contribute to weekly R&D meetings and wider scientific discussions
About You
You will have:
- A BSc or higher in a relevant scientific discipline
- Significant industrial experience within an R&D environment
- Strong experience in ELISA design and development
- Experience managing and reporting on scientific projects
- Confidence planning and conducting experiments independently
- Experience supporting or training junior team members
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with protein purification, conjugation procedures, AKTA systems, or antigen processing would be advantageous.
