As the Legal and Commercial Contracts Specialist, you will play a key role in protecting the company by mitigating risks and maintaining legal compliance in all locations. You will be required to draft, review, and negotiate customer contracts whilst developing and maintaining contract templates. You will also be responsible for leading the efforts associated with the contract life cycle management for sales. You will work cross-functionally with all parts of the company globally, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, insurers, and external legal counsel.
This is a new opportunity that will help move science forward to support the wider business in reducing potential risk exposure with each agreement, whether itβs liaising with the Quality & Compliance Team to ensure legal and reputational risks are controlled or working with the Sales team to ensure bids/tenders are viable from a technical, commercial, and financial perspective.
Responsibilities will include:
- Draft, review, and negotiate customer commercial agreements, such as Service Agreements and Non-Disclosure Agreements, to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain and update the contract database ensuring contracts are properly executed, documented, and stored.
- Maintain the company repository of legal precedents and other templates, ensuring they remain current and compliant with current legislation and regulations.
- Prepare/draft intercompany and other transactional legal agreements, as required.
- Support legal-related initiatives in other departments such as document retention, data privacy, obtaining and managing licences required by the business, and legal technology implementation (e.g., DocuSign).
- Manage the lifecycle of a customer claim from notification of complaint to resolution, including liaising with the insurance company, collating all the required information to defend the claim, and concluding settlement.

In addition, you will demonstrate these key competencies:
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (or GDL and LPC).
- Previous in-house experience with proven expertise in reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and providing legal advice and support to internal stakeholders on a variety of legal matters.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with commercial acumen to make sound decisions and recommendations to senior members of the company.

This is a part-time role, 20 hours per week, with flexibility to complete the hours over 3, 4, or 5 days; this role is offered as hybrid with 60% of your time being based at our Cambridge office in Sawston (CB22 3EG).
