The Position: The position is within the Product Development team based in Trowbridge, UK developing new tests for our novel and proprietary PoC Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) diagnostic platform, the binx io. Working within a team of scientists and engineers in an innovative and collaborative scientific environment, you will play a key part in contributing to the creation and development of a range of applications and assays. In addition, you will play an important role in maintaining an efficient and professional laboratory.

This challenging role will involve devising and leading a tactical project to develop thermal-cycling and detection parameters to achieve a robust semi-quantitative result in a multiplexed end point-detection PCR assay. The Senior Scientist will lead by example and cultivate a supportive, collaborative, and rigorous scientific culture. They will demonstrate in depth knowledge and full understanding of area of specialisation, principles, and practices within a professional discipline. They will assess unusual circumstances and use sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques to identify causes. They will resolve and assess a wide range of issues in creative ways and suggest variations in approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate a technical plan outlining experimental approach to project
  • Ensure procurement of required materials in a timely manner to ensure plan may be executed efficiently
  • Compose well-structured and unbiased experimental plans
  • High quality execution of laboratory experiments
  • In depth and balanced reporting of experiments generated in a timely manner
  • Prepare technical reports summarising project outcomes and findings that lead into design decisions
  • Optimisation of assays to meet performance requirements and ensure patient safety
  • Autonomous management of tactical projects
  • Application of appropriate statistical tests to analyse experimental data
  • Mentors junior technical staff

Education, Experience and Demonstrated Skills:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a biological science / chemical science
  • Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a biological science Master’s degree; or 2 years and a biological science PhD.
  • Essential: Strong molecular biology knowledge and laboratory experience
  • Multiplex qPCR assay development and optimisation
  • Proven ability to plan and run tactical technical projects independently and successfully
  • A highly logical and methodical approach to solving problems and investigations
  • Experimental design, data analysis, and effective communication of results
  • Technical data presentation
  • Strong verbal & written communication
  • Self-motivated and willing to learn
  • Able to work within a small team and drive progress through proactive communication and activity
  • Good organisational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail & well organised
  • Competent in word processing, spreadsheets, databases
