We are looking for experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors to join our growing Water and Utilities team, based in Chester or Preston. This senior-level position provides commercial leadership and support across major infrastructure projects. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will oversee all commercial and procurement aspects, ensuring projects are delivered in line with contract requirements, company procedures, and financial targets. You’ll play a key role in providing strategic commercial advice, managing subcontractor relationships, and driving value across our water and wastewater framework projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the interpretation and understanding of the respective obligations, responsibilities, and liabilities of contracting parties.
- Issue required notices and contractual correspondence, pursue all valid variations, claims, and entitlements through to final account settlement.
- Ensure site teams operate in accordance with contract requirements and commercial reporting systems.
- Produce and implement project procurement plans in line with agreed delivery strategies and timescales.
- Manage all aspects of subcontract procurement including tendering, bid assessment, negotiation, and preparation of subcontract documentation.
- Lead the management of subcontract works packages, including documentation, negotiation of terms and conditions, pricing, and programme management.
- Direct the resolution of non-complex commercial, contractual, and construction issues.
- Prepare and submit financial reports including internal valuations (CVRs), margin forecasts, turnover forecasts, and cash flow projections to agreed deadlines.
- Ensure commercial procedures, cost control, and reporting systems are adhered to by project teams.
- Identify, capture, and mitigate project risks.
- Prepare and agree applications for payment, maximising contractual entitlements and ensuring prompt payment for subcontractor works.
- Provide commercial, contractual, procurement, and financial advice to the project delivery team.
- Lead by example in promoting a positive, safe, and collaborative working culture.
- Support the development and implementation of recovery plans where corrective actions are required.
- Uphold Binnies’ reputation in all dealings with clients, suppliers, and the public.
Qualifications
- Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, or substantial equivalent experience.
- Working towards or holding professional accreditation (RICS / CICES or equivalent) – desirable.
