The Senior CAD/BIM Technician is responsible for the production, coordination and technical delivery of digital engineering deliverables across water, wastewater and environmental projects. The role applies advanced CAD and BIM expertise to develop high‑quality digital deliverables, support multidisciplinary coordination and ensure compliance with project requirements, company standards and industry best practice.

Working with a high degree of independence, the Senior CAD/BIM Technician provides technical support and guidance to less experienced team members, contributes to the development of digital delivery standards and takes responsibility for the CAD/BIM delivery of small projects and defined elements of larger projects. The role requires strong technical capability, a proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, BIM Coordinators and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Production: Produce and coordinate complex 2D drawings, 3D models and associated project deliverables. Lead the development of assigned digital deliverables from engineering sketches, calculations, mark‑ups and design information. Undertake advanced model authoring, design development support and detailing activities. Ensure digital deliverables are produced efficiently and in accordance with project requirements. Take responsibility for the CAD/BIM delivery of small projects and defined elements of larger projects. Deliver assigned work packages to agreed quality, programme and budget requirements.
  • BIM and Information Management: Apply BIM and information management requirements across assigned project tasks. Support project delivery in accordance with ISO 19650 principles and BIM Execution Plans where applicable. Support model federation, coordination and information exchange activities. Contribute to the development of asset information and project data requirements. Promote good information management practices within project teams.
  • Design Coordination: Lead CAD/BIM delivery activities on small projects and defined elements of larger projects. Coordinate digital delivery activities between disciplines to support project objectives. Identify, communicate and support resolution of design clashes, inconsistencies and technical issues. Liaise with engineers, designers and BIM Coordinators to ensure coordinated project delivery. Support project coordination meetings and technical reviews. Support project teams in achieving programme, quality and information management requirements.
  • Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Undertake technical reviews and checking of digital deliverables produced by others. Apply and promote Binnies CAD/BIM standards and project procedures. Support implementation of lessons learned and best practice. Contribute to the development and improvement of CAD/BIM workflows, standards and digital delivery processes. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the CAD/BIM team.
  • Health, Safety and Sustainability: Promote safe and sustainable design practices through digital delivery activities. Support the implementation of CDM requirements through accurate and coordinated digital deliverables. Identify and communicate potential safety, quality and compliance issues. Demonstrate commitment to health, safety and wellbeing within project teams.
  • Professional Development: Maintain and develop advanced technical competence through continuous professional development. Support the development of less experienced technicians through coaching and knowledge sharing. Share technical knowledge, lessons learned and best practice across project teams. Work towards higher levels of professional accreditation where appropriate.
  • Digital Systems and Tools: Demonstrates advanced capability in one or more core digital delivery platforms relevant to their discipline, including: Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Navisworks. Working knowledge of Autodesk Construction Cloud and/or ProjectWise Common Data Environment workflows, model federation and coordination processes, asset information requirements. Awareness of Dynamo and automation tools, GIS platforms, reality capture technologies, emerging digital engineering technologies.

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant technical qualification (HNC, HND or equivalent experience).
  • Significant experience producing engineering CAD and BIM deliverables.
  • Experience working on water and wastewater treatment, networks or environmental projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and design documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD and BIM workflows.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary project delivery.

Desirable

  • Engineering Technician (EngTech) registration.
  • Knowledge of ISO 19650.
  • Experience coordinating digital deliverables across multiple disciplines.
  • Experience checking and reviewing technical deliverables.
