The Senior BIM Coordinator is responsible for leading BIM coordination and information management activities across complex multidisciplinary water, wastewater and environmental projects. The role provides technical leadership for BIM delivery, model coordination and information management processes, ensuring project teams meet client requirements, company standards and industry best practice. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Senior BIM Coordinator leads coordination activities, facilitates collaboration between disciplines, supports the development of BIM standards and workflows, and acts as a recognised BIM specialist within project teams. The role requires strong technical capability, excellent communication skills and the ability to influence project outcomes through effective BIM leadership and digital delivery best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • BIM Coordination and Project Delivery: Lead BIM coordination activities across medium-sized and complex multidisciplinary projects. Develop and implement project BIM coordination strategies and workflows. Lead model federation, clash detection and issue resolution activities. Facilitate multidisciplinary coordination workshops and model review sessions. Present BIM deliverables, coordination findings and design risks to project teams and clients where required. Support project teams in achieving BIM, information management and digital delivery requirements. Act as BIM Lead on assigned projects where required.
  • Information Management: Support implementation of BIM and information management requirements in accordance with project requirements and ISO 19650 principles. Promote effective information exchange, digital collaboration and Common Data Environment workflows. Support the development and review of BIM Execution Plans and project information management documentation where required. Promote good information management practices across project teams.
  • Technical Leadership and Capability Development: Act as a recognised BIM specialist and escalation point for coordination and information management challenges. Provide BIM guidance and technical support to project teams. Mentor BIM Coordinators and support the development of digital delivery capability. Deliver BIM-related training, coaching and knowledge-sharing activities. Support the development and implementation of BIM standards, templates and workflows.
  • Team and Operational Support: Support the Head of CAD/BIM and CAD/BIM Leads in developing BIM capability across the business. Assist with BIM resource planning and coordination where required. Support onboarding and development of BIM personnel. Contribute to recruitment activities, interviews and technical assessments where appropriate. Act as a deputy BIM lead on major projects where required.
  • Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Lead BIM quality reviews and assurance activities across assigned projects. Monitor compliance with project BIM requirements, company standards and agreed workflows. Identify opportunities to improve BIM processes, project efficiency and digital delivery performance. Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across the CAD/BIM function.
  • Health, Safety and Sustainability: Promote safe and sustainable design practices through BIM and digital delivery activities. Support project teams in meeting health, safety and environmental requirements. Promote consideration of design risk and sustainability through coordinated digital delivery.
  • Professional Development: Maintain advanced BIM competence through CPD and industry engagement. Promote knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the CAD/BIM community. Support the development of future BIM specialists and project BIM leads.
  • Digital Systems and Tools: Demonstrates advanced expertise in BIM coordination and digital delivery platforms, including Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bentley I‑Twin, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D. Working knowledge of Common Data Environment workflows, BIM coordination and federation processes, information management processes, asset information requirements. Experience of BIM workflow development, BIM standards implementation, model coordination and clash management, digital delivery improvement initiatives. Awareness of Dynamo and automation tools, GIS platforms, reality capture technologies, emerging digital engineering technologies.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant technical qualification (HNC, HND or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive experience supporting BIM and digital delivery activities on engineering projects.
  • Experience leading BIM coordination activities on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of BIM workflows, model coordination and information management processes.
  • Experience facilitating coordination workshops and model review meetings.
  • Experience undertaking BIM reviews and quality assurance activities.

Desirable:

  • Engineering Technician (EngTech) registration.
  • Knowledge of ISO 19650.
  • Experience developing BIM standards and workflows.
  • Experience delivering BIM training and mentoring.
  • Experience supporting BIM capability development initiatives.
