The Vacancy
Binnies are recruiting for an experienced Ecologist to lead our national team of ecologists.
You will get the opportunity to work on a wide portfolio of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure projects to landscape scale restoration. Our portfolio of work includes flood, coastal and maritime projects and a range of other sectors such as ports, water utilities, transport and renewable power.
One of our newest projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option). SESRO is a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, which is also seeking to provide opportunities to create new habitats and increase biodiversity, as well as providing new leisure and recreation facilities.
We are a close team and have an active Ecology Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of ecological best practice and innovation. Our ecologists work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams and shape projects to deliver more sustainable solutions and maximise Biodiversity Net Gain.
Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute) and hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, which is a benchmark of our high standards in Ecological and EIA delivery.
About the Role
We are looking someone to manage and develop our national team, helping to drive our ecological profile, capability and innovation, including:
- Maintain overview of current projects involving ecology and new prospects.
- Manage ecology workload and forward planning of resource requirements.
- Manage training plans and budgets.
- Provide technical leadership on all stages of Ecological Impact Assessment and design.
- Ensure that work is completed following most up to date guidance and legislation.
- Work collaboratively with other teams within the business as the ecology point of contact.
- Provide technical input into tenders.
- Lead surveys in your technical specialism.
- Ensure Binnies maintain our CIEEM Registered Ecology Practice accreditation.
Qualifications / Requirements
We are seeking an experienced Ecology professional that can demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
- be a chartered member of CIEEM
- experience in a wide range of survey methods for protected species and habitats
- have proven experience in ecological impact assessment, ideally including for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects
- have excellent written and reviewing skills
- have a thorough understanding of ecological legislative and planning policy framework
- previous management experience
- hold a full UK driving licence.
You will likely be Associate Director level or above. Our competitive salary will be based on experience and includes a range of benefits. The role can be full or part time and hybrid / flexible working is available.
