Director Of Asset Health Services

This role is for you if you are a practical consultancy and business leader with deep asset health, maintenance and reliability experience. You are equally credible on site and developing opportunities with client leaders. You will have built this experience in an asset owner, contractor or engineering consultancy, leading technical teams and multi-site commissions. Strong UK water-sector experience is important. This is neither a desk-based strategy role nor one that operates or maintains client assets but works between the two.

What matters:

• Physical asset inspection, condition assessment and defect identification
• Advising on maintenance and reliability improvement, including RCM, FMECA, condition-based maintenance and asset care
• Turning site evidence into practical recommendations, work scopes and maintenance improvement plans
• New-business growth, business development, pipeline conversion and end-to-end P&L ownership
• People leadership, resource planning, competence development and succession planning

A relevant engineering or technical qualification - or equivalent operational experience; IAM qualifications and/or membership is preferred. Operators, maintainers, site managers, engineers and senior clients trust your judgement because you understand the assets and how to help their teams improve them safely.

This role may NOT be right for you if:

• You want to focus primarily on strategy, policy, ISO 55001, maturity assessment, regulatory interpretation or enterprise risk modelling
• Leading practical behavioural change across diverse stakeholder groups isn’t your thing
• You are uncomfortable owning the safety, quality, clients and commercial performance of a consultancy service line

Why this role exists:

The water sector is entering a period of intense delivery. Utility clients need reliable evidence on physical asset health and practical support to translate it into better maintenance, timely lifecycle interventions and sustained asset care. We deliver surveys, inspections, condition assessments, diagnostics, asset-data capture and defect validation. We advise and support clients to improve maintenance, reliability and work management; we do not operate or maintain their assets.

You will lead and grow Binnies' Asset Health Services capability: engineers, technicians, inspectors and asset management specialists delivering repeatable inspection, assessment and improvement consultancy at scale. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, you will own the Asset Health Services P&L, new-business growth, pipeline, revenue, margin, cash, utilisation and service performance.

What This Role Is About:

You connect client operations and maintenance teams with our inspection, diagnostics and asset management specialists, turning site evidence into implementable advice while leading a successful consultancy service. You turn site observations into verified asset health data. You turn defects into prioritised recommendations, scopes and maintenance improvement plans. You help client teams embed the resulting routines and improvements, then check that they are working.

Asset health is not a report or one-off survey. It is a repeatable cycle of inspecting, diagnosing, recommending, supporting implementation and verifying, backed by competent people, consistent methods and usable data. Using the frameworks agreed with Risk and Advisory, you gather evidence, define the work clients need, support better execution and confirm that completed interventions achieved their purpose.

What You Might Work On:

• Mobilising a multi-site condition programme for Ofwat priority asset classes - including storage assets, boreholes, filters, biological treatment assets, settlement tanks and gravity sewers - with consistent field evidence and quality control
• Assessing asset-care practices and developing RCM and condition-based maintenance improvements that client teams can implement to reduce avoidable reactive work and repeat failures
• Converting survey findings into verified defect backlogs, prioritised remedial scopes, job plans and maintenance schedules, then helping client teams embed the changes in their CMMS or EAM system

What You Will Do:

• Own and grow the Asset Health Services P&L through budgets, forecasts and active management of revenue, margin, utilisation, cash and investment
• Own business development: set market and account plans, originate and qualify opportunities, build senior client relationships, lead bids and convert pipeline into profitable work
• Lead safe, high-quality and profitable Asset Health consultancy and inspection commissions, improving repeatability, productivity and client experience from mobilisation to close-out
• Develop and govern standard methods for surveys, inspections, condition grading, defect coding, photographs and evidence, asset identification, data capture, field review and independent quality checks
• Provide technical consultancy leadership in condition assessment, asset-care improvement, RCM, FMECA, condition-based maintenance, planning and scheduling, work-order quality, CMMS optimisation and EAM implementation support
• Ensure findings are actionable: provide verified defect lists, proportionate remedial scopes, maintenance tasks, job plans, work-pack requirements, schedules and backlog recommendations that client teams can implement and sustain
• Lead our contribution to clients' Ofwat asset health roadmap response by producing consistent, traceable and assured evidence on condition, performance, failure history, expenditure and work volumes across the current priority asset classes
• Help clients improve the PR24 asset health performance commitments through targeted inspection, diagnosis, maintenance improvement advice and implementation support, backed by useful leading indicators
• Work with the Director of Risk and Advisory Services to provide field evidence, define practical improvement actions and support client implementation following regulatory reviews, ISO 55001 or maturity assessments; Risk and Advisory will retain ownership of interpretation, frameworks and assurance
• Work with the Director of Digital Products and Services to define and implement solutions that provide decision support capability across the asset lifecycle from capital renewals to predictive operations and maintenance activities
• Provide governance, financial control and quality assurance for commissions and secondments, with clear progress, risk, change, margin and benefits reporting
• Build a diverse and dependable team through recruitment, resource planning, technical standards, coaching, training, authorisations, career development and succession planning, with a strong culture of safety and wellbeing
• Use practical technology to improve delivery - including mobile data capture, remote monitoring, diagnostic tools and digital inspection - and collaborate across Binnies and RSK where this produces a better field outcome
