The Opportunity
Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, is looking to appoint experienced Lead Civil Engineers to join our Delivery group, supporting major non‑infrastructure UK water engineering projects. Binnies offers opportunities on an international scale, with offices worldwide and projects completed in more than 100 countries. Functioning as a technical specialist and/or discipline lead, you will play a key role in developing and applying advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches across a range of complex AMP8 and non‑infrastructure water projects. At Binnies, we support flexible ways of working and offer hybrid, part‑time, and remote working arrangements with flexible UK base locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the civil engineering discipline throughout all stages of the project design lifecycle, ensuring technical excellence and robust delivery
- Provide authoritative guidance on departmental design guides, engineering standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes and regulations
- Prepare and review complex civil engineering calculations, models, drawings, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with project budgets, schedules, and quality systems
- Champion continuous improvement by supporting colleagues, sharing best practice, and contributing to the development of engineering processes and tools
- Coordinate effectively with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions on complex projects
- Produce and oversee a wide range of advanced civil engineering deliverables across major or multi‑project programmes
- Develop informed recommendations on materials selection, construction methodologies, and design optimisation
- Define and manage specifications for data collection, analysis, and management to support engineering activities
- Act as a technical specialist, providing expert advice, guidance, and problem‑solving support to project teams
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team culture
- Ensure full compliance with all health and safety responsibilities applicable to designers under relevant legislation and company procedures
Person Specification
- A degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline
- Chartered engineer status (CEng MICE) or equivalent professional qualification
- Significant experience within the water or wastewater sector, or a comparable engineering environment
- Strong working knowledge of relevant industry standards, CDM regulations, procurement processes, and document control systems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A high level of digital competency, with a proactive and adaptable approach to delivering high‑quality engineering solutions
- Demonstrable leadership and mentoring experience within a multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Proven experience in the design and checking of non‑infrastructure water and wastewater treatment works, including detailed design
- Experience working within design‑and‑build project environments
- The ability to lead and manage teams of civil engineers while collaborating effectively with structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, and other specialist disciplines to deliver coordinated engineering outputs
