About the Role:

Following major AMP8 framework wins and continued growth across UK water companies, Binnies (part of the RSK Group) is expanding its UK Water Services capability. We are seeking a Chartered Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and lead our Birmingham-based civil engineering team. This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys being a technical authority and subject matter expert, while also mentoring and developing engineers within a collaborative design environment. You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure solutions, while strengthening technical capability across the business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Principal Civil Design Engineer / Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Act as the civil engineering subject matter expert across multiple projects
  • Lead and review complex designs, calculations, reports, and specifications
  • Provide technical assurance and problem-solving support to project teams
  • Be the first point of contact for civil engineering technical queries
  • Support the development and application of standards, tools, and best practice
  • Mentor and develop graduate, junior, and apprentice engineers
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk management, and value engineering
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients
  • Support cost, programme, and quality objectives through sound technical decision-making

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) or equivalent experience, working towards chartership
  • Proven experience delivering outline and detailed design in the water or wastewater sector
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary and remote resources
  • Strong technical judgement and clear, pragmatic communication
  • A passion for mentoring and developing engineers

Desirable:

  • Experience across infra and non-infra water projects
  • Familiarity with UK water industry design standards and assurance processes
  • Experience coordinating overseas resources
  • Involvement in technical communities or innovation initiatives
