Teacher of Pupils with Complex Additional Support Needs

We are looking for a teacher with experience in supporting young people to join our team in Pupil Support within Kirkwall Grammar School.

35 hours per week, Term Time

Permanent

As part of the Pupil Support team, your main duties will be to work collaboratively with school staff, multi‑agency partners, and community partners to coordinate and promote opportunities and appropriate support for pupils with a wide range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. This will include targeted approaches and the development and preparation of individualised timetables.

You will help pupils develop life skills, support the achievement of literacy and numeracy qualifications, and work with those at risk of leaving school without qualifications.

• Develop relationships and strategies for young people who may be on the cusp of disengagement or at risk of exclusion, using flexible approaches tailored to individual support needs.
• Apply emotional regulation and self‑regulation strategies (e.g., anger management, stress management) and solution‑oriented approaches to develop restorative plans and activities within the Child\’s Plan process.
• Work within the local community and with pupils to support personal development, carrying out 1:1 work or small group sessions.
• Collaborate closely with Guidance and Pupil Support staff to evaluate the impact of your work and carry out ongoing professional learning into current research on supporting engagement in and beyond school.

Salary will be based on the Main Grade scale of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance. We offer a generous relocation package.

You must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
