Peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf (Orkney)
Employment : Permanent, 14 hours per week, Term time.
Location : Orkney Mainland and outer Isles schools.
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible Peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf to join a well‑established, highly skilled and committed team. The role involves supporting inclusive education for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing children and young people (CYP) aged 3‑18 across mainstream schools and enhanced resource bases.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and support provision for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing CYP aged 3‑18 across schools.
- Promote inclusive education in alignment with Curriculum for Excellence, the Education (Additional Support for Learning) Act 2004 and the GIRFEC framework.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency teams to ensure equitable access to education and support academic, social, and emotional development.
- Plan teaching and learning including co‑operative/team teaching, identification and assessment, partnership with specialist services.
- Contribute to staff professional development.
Qualifications
- Qualified teacher of the deaf (or in the process of completing a Pg Diploma Inclusive Education – Deaf Learners).
- Must complete Pg Diploma – Deaf Learners within 36 months if not already held.
- Proficiency in communication methods, including spoken English and British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 or willingness to work towards it.
- Knowledge of GIRFEC, attachment theory, and nurturing approaches.
- A degree or PGCE is essential; additional qualification in deaf education (Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate) is required.
- Registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
Salary & Benefits
Salary based on SNCT Teacher Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance. This post is subject to Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG. Interview and relocation expenses will be paid in accordance with Council policy.
