Service Manager Business Development

Salary
£60,883 – £66,321 per year (inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance)
Hours – 35 hours per week
Employment type – Permanent
Location – Harbour Authority Building, Scapa, Orkney Islands (or other office accommodation in Kirkwall). The role requires national and international travel.
Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate the Department’s Business Development Strategy for the range of harbours within the ports estate, including the Oil Port of Scapa Flow, and the harbours of Kirkwall and Stromness.
- Lead both direct and indirect sales of port‑related services and advise the Harbour Master and Council leadership on market trends in all related service areas.
- Demonstrate positive growth in sales revenue resulting from the business development strategy.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to the marine leisure, cruise ship, fishing, ro‑ro ferry and general cargo sectors.
- Co‑ordinate with harbour managers to align business development initiatives with operational capacities.
- Represent the Council at trade and industry events across the UK and internationally.
Qualifications and Experience
- Substantial experience in a business and marketing field, ideally maritime related, with a proven successful business track record, including development and implementation of marketing and business development strategies.
- Qualification at SCQF 8/9 (e.g., SVQ4, HND, General Degree, Higher Apprenticeship, Technical Apprenticeship, OR), or at least five years of relevant previous experience if the qualification is not held.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- Experience in enterprise business development for port operations is desirable.
Travel and Clearance
The post requires efficient travel between various work locations within Orkney and may involve national and international travel in support of the business development strategy. It is subject to Level 1 Disclosure Scotland clearance.
