The Engineering Manager (Atomisation) will provide overall leadership, guidance, and direction to the Atomisation Engineering team engaged in the design and development of finishing equipment for the transportation, general industrial, and automotive refinishing markets. The leader will drive the integration and collaboration of the team to effectively leverage resources to deliver innovative customer-focused solutions while assuring all key performance goals are met.

The Atomisation Team is responsible for the development of application equipment used in applying a wide range of protective and decorative coating. The position will be located in Bournemouth, UK, reporting to the Global R&D Director – Finishing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Atomisation organization to focus on customer needs, business expansion, and profitable growth globally.
  • Translate overall R&D strategy and goals to the department level to deliver effective day-to-day guidance and execution.
  • Collaborate with key leaders to define an atomisation product strategy and outline key initiatives to develop technologies, products, and manufacturing methods to support the strategy.
  • In conjunction with Product Management and Marketing, identify customer-focused product solutions by translating market trends, customer feedback, and competitive information into new product development projects delivering a clear value proposition and competitive advantage.
  • Utilize disciplined Lean/Six Sigma and project management disciplines to improve efficiency, consistency, and synergy throughout the atomisation team in collaboration with the global R&D team and other functions.
  • Ensure compliance and quality through documentation management, engineering drawings, and change control, and support development or improvement of engineering processes and tools.
  • Manage resource allocation aligned with project priorities and timelines.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration to deliver improved engineering excellence, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering personnel to enable practical, efficient, and cost-effective designs.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and engage talent, ensuring team capabilities and skill sets are aligned with the current and future portfolio needs while effectively leveraging global engineering skills and resources.

General Tasks

  • Ability to be flexible and able to function comfortably in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, suppliers, and employees.
  • Ensure company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all R&D department functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Ten or more years of engineering experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Expert technical capabilities, oral and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities to create and lead an environment where global, cross-functional collaboration is encouraged.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design package.
  • Use of ERP systems – CFT – Microsoft Dynamic Navision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage global resource planning and teams in a global, matrixed organization with at least seven years of progressive management experience.
  • Demonstrated competency applying Lean/Six Sigma tools.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize workload, and work in a methodical and logical approach.
  • Positively respond to pressure in the role.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Moderate to advanced skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work under pressure in meeting time schedules.
  • A team player that can relate to people at all levels of the organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
