We are seeking to recruit a committed administrative assistant to work within our Actions Against Police & State Department. This is a great opportunity for someone who has previously worked as an administrative assistant, possibly in a different sector and looking to acquire new skills or someone seeking a career in an office environment who can demonstrate good organisational and team skills. The position is not suitable for people looking to gain experience within a law firm as part of their career progression to become a lawyer. We are seeking a commitment to this role for at least 12 months.

Overview of key responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative support to solicitors in the department
  • File and diary management
  • Electronic and paper filing
  • Requesting and organising documentation from clients and/or third parties
  • Assisting with the preparation of electronic and/or physical bundles of documents for court, counsel and/or experts
  • Assisting the paralegals/trainees with new client enquiries
  • Assisting with opening, closing and archiving files
  • Assisting with compliance, accounting and administrative tasks

Skills/knowledge requirements:

  • Experience in an administrative or office setting, or in working in another setting which has helped develop the appropriate transferrable skills needed to handle complex information and interact effectively with colleagues, clients and the public (essential)
  • You will need to be enthusiastic with good communication, have strong organisational and administrative skills
  • You should have a flexible and professional attitude and an ability to work quickly under pressure and work as part of a team
  • Good typing and organisational skills
  • Legal experience and knowledge of legal aid procedures is not essential but are an advantage
