We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join an established and growing main contractor based in Newcastle.
The business delivers high-value construction projects across the North East and wider regions, with the majority of their workload focused on refurbishment and complex building projects typically valued between £5m and £15m, with larger schemes reaching £30m+.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator to join a well-established contractor and play a key role in securing a strong pipeline of projects.
The Role
As Estimator, you will manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission, working closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to produce accurate and competitive tenders.
Your responsibilities will include
- Preparing detailed estimates and tenders for projects ranging from £5m to £15m, with larger projects up to £30m+.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
- Producing cost plans, bills of quantities and tender submissions.
- Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Identifying project risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.
- Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers throughout the tender process.
- Attending tender meetings, site visits and client meetings.
- Supporting the business in securing new work and maintaining a strong project pipeline.
- Assisting with the handover of successful tenders to the delivery and commercial teams.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will have a strong main contracting background and a proven track record of estimating projects within a refurbishment and construction environment.
Refurbishment experience is essential, with experience across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, public sector, industrial, CAT A / CAT B and complex building refurbishment being highly desirable.
You will ideally have experience estimating projects in the £5m–£15m range, with exposure to larger £30m+ schemes being advantageous.
- Previous experience working for a main contractor.
- Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction industry.
- Experience estimating projects of £5m+.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and sequencing.
- Experience obtaining and analysing subcontractor quotations.
- Excellent understanding of tender documentation and the estimating process.
- Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively.
