A busy and growing tool and plant hire business is seeking an experienced Hire Desk Controller to join its team and play a key role in keeping customers, equipment and daily operations running smoothly. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the hire desk, handling customer enquiries, coordinating deliveries and collections, and working closely with the workshop and wider team to ensure a reliable and efficient service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hire desk professional who understands the tool and plant hire industry, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering a high level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling hire enquiries and orders by phone, email, WhatsApp and face to face
  • Preparing hire contracts and associated paperwork
  • Coordinating deliveries and collections with drivers
  • Liaising with the workshop to ensure equipment is prepared and ready on time
  • Managing off-hires, stock transfers and purchase orders
  • Maximising hire and consumable sales
  • Maintaining strong fleet availability and utilisation
  • Building and maintaining positive customer relationships
  • Providing excellent customer service throughout the hire process
  • Assisting customers with loading and unloading when required
  • Ensuring all hire desk administration is accurate and up to date
  • Supporting the wider team with the smooth day-to-day running of the hire operation

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience within the tool or plant hire industry
  • Hire desk experience
  • Good working knowledge of Syrinx
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Good IT skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to remain organised and work effectively under pressure
  • Honest, reliable and proactive approach
  • Full UK manual driving licence
  • Physically able to occasionally assist with loading and unloading
