Managing Quantity Surveyor – Major Civils project
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading Tier 1 main contractor on one of the UK's largest and most prestigious infrastructure projects based at Sellafield.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the commercial function on a major programme of works, leading commercial teams, managing high-value packages and playing a key role in the successful delivery of a long-term project.
The Role
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial management of a major project or portfolio of work, providing strategic commercial direction while supporting and mentoring a team of Quantity Surveyors.
Working closely with senior operational and commercial leaders, you will ensure robust commercial governance, maximise project performance and maintain strong client and supply chain relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial delivery of major nuclear construction projects from procurement through to final account.
- Manage and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting their development and performance.
- Oversee NEC3 and NEC4 contract administration, including compensation events, early warnings and change management.
- Develop commercial strategies to maximise profitability and minimise project risk.
- Prepare and review CVRs, forecasts, budgets and commercial reports.
- Lead subcontract procurement, negotiations and commercial management.
- Review and approve subcontractor valuations, payments and final accounts.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities while implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures, governance and contractual obligations.
About You
We're looking for someone with
- Proven experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to step into a leadership role.
- Previous experience working for a Tier 1 main contractor on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Experience leading commercial teams and managing multiple high-value work packages.
- Excellent commercial awareness, leadership and negotiation skills.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- MRICS or progression towards chartership is advantageous.
- Previous nuclear experience is desirable; however, candidates from other highly regulated sectors such as defence, energy, water, utilities or major infrastructure are also encouraged to apply.
