As a GRP Laminating Trainee, you'll complete a structured classroom based four‑week training programme designed to equip you with a highly sought‑after skillset and set you up for a long‑term career with Sunseeker. The training is delivered Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:15pm, by some of Sunseeker's most experienced and longest‑serving Trade Specialists.

Once training is complete and you transition into your role as a GRP Laminator, you will be fully involved in the production process. This includes using a variety of manual wet‑lay techniques, infusion, preparing and releasing both small and large moulds, and working as part of a team to achieve production targets while maintaining Sunseeker's world‑renowned quality standards.

What Does GRP Laminating Involve?

GRP composite lamination involves fusing layers of fibreglass to produce strong, durable components used throughout Sunseeker yachts. This is a hands-on, physical role which can be messy and demanding, involving:

  • Prolonged standing and manual handling
  • Reaching, lifting, twisting, and bending
  • Occasionally working at height or in confined spaces

GRP materials have a strong, distinctive smell and can be hazardous without correct controls. Full PPE is provided free of charge by Sunseeker, and all work is carried out to strict safety standards.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:15pm

Location: Portland site, easily accessible by local bus (arriving in time for a 7am start). Free parking available for those travelling by car.

Pay Rates:

  • £12.71 per hour – starting rate
  • £13.71 per hour after 12 weeks
  • £14.42 per hour after 26 weeks – (Subject to timekeeping, attendance and meeting the required quality of work produced)

Previous Experience: No previous laminating experience is required. We're looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with their hands or on their feet in physically demanding working environments
  • Ideally come from a production, manufacturing, industrial, warehousing or hospitality environment
  • Can reliably attend site for a 7am start Monday to Friday
  • Are committed to long‑term employment
  • Have a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and enjoy physical team work

Applicants must provide a CV with all employment dates covered and explanations for any gaps.

Once you apply, we'll contact you to discuss the role in more detail. Successful candidates will be invited to an assessment morning, which includes:

  • An introduction to Sunseeker and the training programme
  • Shipyard tour
  • Practical laminating exercise
  • 1‑to‑1 interview with two Sunseeker representatives
  • Right‑to‑work checks
  • Tea and coffee provided
