We're recruiting for a Junior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team on a major construction programme in Bedford.

With over 5 years of secured work on this project alone, this is an excellent opportunity for somebody with existing construction commercial experience to develop their career within a stable, long-term environment.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you'll gain exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and commercial management, working on a large-scale, high-profile construction project from delivery through to completion.

This role would suit a Junior Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, or Commercial Assistant who already has experience within the construction sector and is looking to take the next step in their career.

The Role

Working closely with the Commercial Manager and wider site team, you'll support the commercial delivery of the project across procurement, subcontract management, cost control, valuations, reporting, variations, and final accounts.

You'll gain hands‑on experience in all aspects of project commercial management while developing alongside an experienced team on a complex and long‑term build programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Management
  • -Assist in the preparation of valuations, cost reports, forecasts, and commercial reviews
  • -Support the monitoring and control of project costs and budgets
  • -Help manage variations and change control processes
  • -Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation
  • -Assist with the preparation and agreement of final accounts
  • Subcontractor Management
  • * Support subcontractor procurement and package administration
  • * Assist with subcontractor payments and assessment of applications
  • * Help manage subcontractor accounts throughout the project lifecycle
  • * Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Cost Control & Reporting
  • * Produce and maintain accurate cost information and project records
  • * Assist with monthly commercial reporting requirements
  • * Support the identification of commercial risks and opportunities
  • * Ensure compliance with project commercial processes and procedures
  • * Work closely with site management, operational and planning teams
  • * Attend commercial and project meetings
  • * Support the wider project team in achieving commercial objectives
  • * Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • What We’re Looking For
  • * Experience working within a construction, infrastructure, engineering, or main contractor environment
  • * Previous experience as a Junior QS, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Assistant, or similar commercial role
  • * Understanding of construction commercial processes and cost management
  • * Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills
  • * Excellent attention to detail
  • * Good communication and relationship‑building skills
  • * Ability to work effectively within a project team
  • * Full UK driving licence
  • * Degree, HNC, or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline
  • * Experience supporting live construction projects
  • * Knowledge of standard forms of construction contract
  • * Working towards or interested in professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB
