As a Building & Maintenance Officer, you will support the day-to-day operation of BIMM's campus buildings, ensuring facilities, equipment and shared spaces are safe, well maintained and ready to support teaching, learning and wider student activity. You'll help keep campus buildings and facilities running efficiently, responding to maintenance needs and supporting day-to-day operational activity.
What You'll Do:
- Support the day-to-day operation of campus buildings, ensuring teaching spaces, shared areas and facilities are appropriately prepared and maintained.
- Coordinate the opening and closing of buildings in line with agreed procedures and security requirements.
- Take ownership of building presentation, identifying and resolving issues that affect the campus environment.
- Carry out routine inspections and reactive checks of buildings, facilities and equipment, taking appropriate action where required.
- Undertake basic maintenance tasks and repairs, escalating issues to specialist contractors when necessary.
- Liaise with contractors to coordinate maintenance and repair works, supporting safe access and monitoring activity on site.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, defects, maintenance activity and completed works.
- Support health and safety processes, including inspections, audits, compliance checks and local risk assessment activity.
- Promote safe working practices and elevate significant risks or safety concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Provide first-line support for routine IT and equipment issues, escalating more complex matters where required.
- Use relevant systems to record maintenance requests, compliance activity and operational information.
- Act as a first point of contact for building and facilities queries, resolving routine issues and coordinating support where needed.
- Contribute to operational projects and support colleagues across the wider Building & Technical Services team as required.
Experience:
- Experience working within a building, maintenance or facilities environment.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and respond to changing demands.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and sound judgement when resolving day-to-day issues.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with students, colleagues, contractors and service teams.
- Experience coordinating or supporting maintenance and contractor activity.
- Good digital skills, including experience using operational, record-keeping or maintenance management systems.
- A practical understanding of health and safety requirements relevant to building and maintenance activities.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a wider team.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work.
