The Commercial Head UK will lead the UK commercial organisation, overseeing a team of Key Account Managers, Territory Managers, and Customer Service representatives across the animal health channels. This role is responsible for shaping and executing the UK commercial strategy, accelerating revenue and margin growth, and strengthening partnerships across the veterinary and agricultural sectors. This includes engagement with veterinary corporate groups and buying groups, independent practices and clinics, wholesalers and distributors, agri-trade and farm customers, as well as online and e-commerce channels.
The ideal candidate will bring proven commercial leadership experience within the animal health sector, strong people leadership capability, and a deep understanding of the UK market, including regulatory requirements, customer behaviour, and channel dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing UK commercial team across key customer groups.
- Build capability in key account management and value-based selling.
- Set clear objectives, coach performance, and foster a culture of accountability and customer focus.
- Ensure compliance with all UK veterinary medicines regulations in market execution.
- Commercial Strategy
- Own and deliver the UK commercial strategy, defining long-term growth priorities across species portfolios.
- Identify and prioritise high-value opportunities (e.g. new product launches, category expansion, and shifts in customer demand).
- Ensure alignment with European and global commercial priorities.
- Define and continuously optimise route-to-market strategies.
- Act quickly on market opportunities (e.g. competitor stock shortages, supply gaps, special import opportunities) to capture share.
- Monitor competitor activity, pricing, and market trends to anticipate risks and unlock growth.
- Customer & Market Leadership
- Lead strategic relationships with key UK veterinary corporates, buying groups, wholesalers/distributors, and farm customers.
- Support development of robust joint business plans delivering sustainable growth and compliance.
- Guide complex commercial negotiations (pricing, volume, contracts) to secure long-term partnerships.
- Oversee all customer contracts and trading agreements, ensuring consistency, commercial robustness, and clear governance.
- Apply structured customer segmentation to focus on highest-value opportunities.
- Performance Management
- Deliver against UK revenue, margin, and market share targets.
- Lead demand planning, forecasting, and pipeline management across product portfolios.
- Ensure pricing, promotions, and investments maximise profitability and ROI.
- Drive disciplined management of GTN (Gross-to-Net), rebates, and trade investment programmes.
- Ensure all rebates, discounts, and promotions are accurately tracked, accrued, and controlled.
- Partner with Finance to manage credit, debtor days, and working capital, ensuring adherence to agreed terms.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Marketing, Technical, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to deliver commercial plans.
- Partner with technical and marketing teams to strengthen value propositions and customer outcomes.
- Represent the UK market in European planning forums, providing insight and commercial recommendations.
Experience & Skills Required
- Industry Experience
- Strong understanding of the UK veterinary and agricultural sectors, including corporate groups, wholesalers, and farm supply chains.
- Commercial & Leadership Experience
- Proven track record in senior commercial or national sales leadership roles within animal health or a related sector.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing commercial teams.
- Strong strategic capability with experience shaping and executing country-level plans.
- Excellent financial acumen, with the ability to interpret sales, margin, and investment performance.
- Strong contract negotiation expertise, including rebates and trading terms.
- Working knowledge of the UK veterinary medicines regulatory environment.
- Third-level qualification in science, veterinary, agriculture, business, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
