We are seeking a high-caliber Piping Engineering Lead with a strong background in Building Information Modeling (BIM) to spearhead delivery of piping design/engineering/fabrication package on a major pharmaceutical project. This is a critical role designed for a professional who excels at the intersection of technical design, commercial awareness, and project delivery within a Pharmaceutical/GMP environment. You will be the gatekeeper of quality and scope, ensuring that our piping designs are not only technically sound but are delivered on time and strictly within our client's contractual boundaries.

Tasks

  • Team Leadership: Manage a dedicated team of piping engineers. You will be responsible for overseeing the ISO fabrication review process, ensuring high-quality output meets strictly defined project milestones.
  • Scope & Compliance: Deliver complex scopes of work within a regulated GMP setting. You will play a vital role in 'scope guarding'—ensuring the team remains focused on contractual obligations and identifying out-of-scope requests.
  • Design Coordination: Chair regular design meetings with our external design partners to resolve technical hurdles and streamline the review cycle.
  • Quality Control: Review and reject ISOs that do not meet project standards. You will ensure that all changes discussed in design meetings are accurately captured in redline ISOs.
  • Commercial Liaison: Maintain a meticulous log of model changes. You will be responsible for quantifying abortive works and providing the commercial team with the data needed for variations and claims.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for contractor delivery partners, including piping and Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) teams.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in piping engineering/design and a deep understanding of ISO fabrication.
  • BIM Literacy: Proficient in BIM workflows and the ability to navigate complex 3D models to identify clashes or design inconsistencies.
  • Industry Experience: Proven track record working in the Pharmaceutical/Life Sciences sector under GMP standards.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to identify 'scope creep' and quantify the impact of design changes on project costs.
  • Leadership: Strong experience managing engineering teams and driving performance against deadlines.
  • Communication: Exceptional negotiation and chairing skills; able to hold partners accountable while maintaining collaborative relationships.
