A growing building services design team is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to support ongoing project requirements. This role suits someone with solid technical grounding who is ready to take on more responsibility, including client–facing duties and involvement in coordinated mechanical services design.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare mechanical building services plans, specifications and project schedules
  • Produce technical reports supporting design concepts, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practice
  • Work collaboratively with wider design teams across multiple disciplines
  • Carry out site inspections, monitor installations and review testing/commissioning progress
  • Support project teams and clients regarding mechanical operation, performance and ongoing maintenance
  • Contribute to the design and coordination of mechanical systems across a range of project sectors

Required Background

  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years+ experience within a recognised building services consultancy
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems and design principles
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, Building Regulations and best practice guidance
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit/Navisworks, SBEM and Hevacomp (or similar software)
  • Understanding of BREEAM principles
  • Working knowledge of British Standards and EN regulations
  • Membership or working towards membership with a recognised body (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE)

Additional Details

  • Experience across multiple sectors such as commercial, retail, industrial and data centres is advantageous
