This role provides hands-on operational leadership of the UK People function during maternity leave, while owning the design and build of BDB Learn/Academy – our internal learning knowledge hub. Approximately 50% of this role is dedicated to BDB Learn: capturing internal expertise, building content, and embedding learning into the employee lifecycle. You’ll be the go-to partner for managers, running day-to-day people operations leading low-mid complexity ER, and ensuring consistent, value-led employee experience. You’ll work closely with the Global People Director (GPD) and People Coordinator to keep everything running smoothly, accurately and on time.
Responsibilities
- BDB Learn – (approx 50% of role) Full ownership of building, delivering and embedding the internal learning hub. Create a structured, scalable internal learning library that reflects how BDB works – practical, relevant and easy to engage with. Translate values, behaviours, frameworks and role expectations into clear learning pathways. Partner with dept heads and subject matter experts to turn internal knowledge into high-quality learning assets (short videos, recorded sessions, templates, guides etc). Build learning into core lifecycle moments: onboarding, probation, manager capability, performance conversation, progression readiness. Establish measurement – engagement, usage, completion and feedback. Develop a BDB specific certification or accreditation pathways where relevant. Advise on platform/tooling options (lightweight LMS, Notion, Google Workspace, video hosting etc), in partnership with the GPD build the business case and lead the implementation.
- Employee Relations & Manager Support First point of contact for junior and mid-managers providing advice & guidance across the full HR lifecycle. Lead ER case management (performance, probations concerns, grievances, conduct). Escalate complex, high risk or sensitive matters to the Global People Director. Deliver internal manager sessions on topics such as feedback, probation management, process, values and ways of working. Support development of the People Coordinator to take on basic ER cases.
- Compensation, Promotions, Performance Coordinate the monthly promotion & pay increase cycles ensuring documentation, consistency and accuracy. Oversee probation processes, ensuring concerns are addressed early and fairly.
- Operational Excellence and Payroll Maintain oversight of people data accuracy, including payroll and bob inputs, TOIL and sick leave reporting. Ensure monthly payroll information is correct and submitted on time. Work closely with the People Coordinator on administration, systems and data management.
- Engagement and Culture Support with internal communications, company updates, socials events and training. Use people data and feedback to highlight risks and improvements. Play a role in embedding values and behaviours across the everyday employee experience.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong L&D capability with experience designing practical, digital first internal learning content.
- Proven HR generalist/people partner or HR Manager experience, with creative, digital or agency environment.
- Confident handling day-to-day ER independent.
- Experience building or managing internal learning platform/knowledge hubs.
- Highly organised, delivery focused and comfortable working at pace.
- Able to balance structure with pragmatism and common sense.
- Commercially aware with a straightforward communication style.
- Experience implementing lightweight LMS or learning tools.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace.
