About the Role

This role is based in our Compliance & Risk Department, reporting to the Head of Compliance & Risk. This is a 5-month fixed term contract role created to provide dedicated compliance advisory support and project delivery during a key period of operational development and system enhancements.

The role holder will be responsible for delivering high quality compliance advice to business functions, consolidating and preparing packs for forums and committees, taking minutes and conducting thematic monitoring and testing (including customer and complaints outcome testing). The role will help embed regulatory compliance and Consumer Duty outcomes while supporting the second line of defence on a project basis.

The role supports Billing Finance’s ambitions to be a UK lender of choice by strengthening compliance governance and assurance during this interim period. The position is a project style role with clear deliverables over the 5-month term.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Advisory

  • Support the team in providing timely, pragmatic and risk-based compliance advice to different business functions on regulatory requirements, internal policies, and day-to-day queries.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, building strong working relationships with key stakeholder across Operations and other functions to ensure compliance is embedded into business processes.
  • Identify and escalate compliance risks and issues, offering clear recommendations for mitigation and improvement.

    Governance & Risk Support

  • Consolidate information from across the business and prepare high quality, accurate packs, reports and management information for forums, committees and the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Attend meetings as required, take clear and accurate minutes where required and manage the tracking and follow-up of actions and decisions.
  • Support the preparation of materials for key governance meetings, including Risk, Regulation and Policy Committee activities.
  • Develop monitoring, reporting and carry out remedial action in key areas of contract management, compliance training, incident logging and reporting.
  • Support the Operations functions with the development of operational risk registers, key risk indicator monitoring and control development.
  • Managing the document control schedule, including historic version controlling records.

Monitoring, Testing and Assurance

  • Conduct thematic monitoring and testing activities, focusing on key risk areas.
  • Perform customer outcome testing and complaints outcome testing to assess adherence to Consumer Duty, internal policies and regulatory expectations.
  • Analyse findings, identify root causes and gaps and produce clear reports with actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders and the SLT.
  • Collaborate with first line teams (e.g. QA and Operations) to share findings and support the development of effective monitoring controls and testing.
  • Track and report on the progress of remedial actions, escalating overdue items appropriately.
  • Proactively promote the importance and value of Compliance & Risk within the business, including through guidance and training where appropriate.

Eligibility Criteria

Successful candidates will need to be able to demonstrate the following experience, behavioural competencies, and our Company values:

Experience and skills

  • Experience in a Compliance Advisory, Monitoring, Governance or Risk role within a financial services environment (consumer credit, hire purchase or motor finance experience is an advantage but not essential).
  • Strong working knowledge of FCA regulations, including Consumer Duty and practical experience applying them in a second line advisory capacity.
  • Some knowledge of motor finance an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience of producing high-quality written reports, committee packs and minutes.
  • Experience of conducting compliance monitoring, thematic reviews and outcome testing.
  • Experience of engaging with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

  • Highly organised with ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple workstreams and deliver results within defined project timelines.
  • Highly analytical with good attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – able to produce clear packs, minutes and reports and confidently advise individuals at all levels, including the SLT.
  • Curious and enquiring with an appetite to understand business issues, continuously improve and identify new ways of working.
  • Able to work independently and deliver outcomes in a fixed term, project style role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for pack presentation and reporting.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and resilient.
