We’re in the middle of something genuinely exciting. We’re moving from a predominantly on‑premises setup to a cloud‑native architecture on Google Cloud Platform, integrating best‑in‑class SaaS providers across the full loan lifecycle from origination through to final settlement. That means enhancing our infrastructure, data, and engineering, with the support of our leadership team who are committed to doing it properly. We work with GCP, Python, Terraform, and GitHub, using automation, Infrastructure as Code, and modern delivery practices to move fast while maintaining quality and control.

We’re now expanding our permanent team and are seeking a T‑shaped Lead Engineer to bring deep technical expertise along with a collaborative mindset. You’ll work across data, platform, and software domains, taking ownership from design through to production, applying modern cloud and engineering principles. You’ll lead a small, high‑trust team of engineers and work closely with the Senior Technology Manager to shape the direction of our technology platform, not just help deliver it.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and evolve our engineering practices, setting the bar on DevSecOps, reliability, and cloud‑native development.
  • Shape our technology strategy, with genuine influence over direction, not just execution.
  • Lead architectural decision‑making and technical assessments, drive automation, and own our Infrastructure as Code approach end‑to‑end.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and set the standard for how we manage cloud resources.
  • Contribute directly to delivery and balance hands‑on technical contribution with leadership – you’ll need to know when to do and when to delegate.
  • Lead and develop a small team of engineers, with a coaching style that builds genuine capability and cross‑skilling rather than dependency.
  • Build trusted relationships across technical and operational teams to translate real business needs into well‑scoped, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.

We are responsible and conscious of our impact on people and planet. You’re at home in a cloud‑native world – if you know your way around GCP, even better. You’ll be the bridge between technical design and delivery, so you should be comfortable being hands‑on with our codebase, holding your own in code reviews, and owning the lifecycle of our platforms. Because we operate in financial services, experience in a regulated industry is a huge plus, but don’t worry if you haven’t done motor finance specifically. What matters most is your approach to SRE, DevSecOps, and building for scale without breaking things. As a natural collaborator and owner, you’ll lead with a proactive mindset, balancing quality, speed, innovation, and risk. If you’re an engineering leader who thrives on quality, reliability, and taking projects from inception to production, we’d love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Basic Disclosure and BSA (Basic DBS) check to comply with our FCA compliance framework. A satisfactory Basic Disclosure showing no unspent convictions is a prerequisite for this position.
