About the role
Billigence is supporting an agriculture-focused initiative that aims to apply advanced data science to real-world farming and supply chain challenges. We are looking for an experienced Data Science Advisor & Implementer with a strong background in agricultural modelling and analytics. This is a hands-on advisory role, combining strategic guidance with practical implementation to help translate complex analytical approaches into operational solutions within agricultural value chains. The engagement will initially run for 3 months, with the potential to extend into a longer-term collaboration.
What you'll do
- Act as both a strategic advisor and hands-on data science practitioner
- Design, build, and evaluate data science models addressing agricultural challenges
- Apply advanced modelling approaches, including Bayesian methods and probabilistic reasoning
- Ensure models are explainable and interpretable for non-technical stakeholders
- Translate analytical techniques into practical solutions used in real-world operations
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure models align with agricultural processes and constraints
- Guide stakeholders on how analytical outputs integrate into business and field operations
- Provide recommendations on how data science capabilities can scale over time
What you'll need
- Proven experience applying data science to agricultural or environmental problems
- Strong expertise in statistical modelling and machine learning
- Experience working with Bayesian methods and probabilistic modelling
- Ability to build interpretable and explainable models
- Experience translating analytical work into practical operational outcomes
- Strong academic background in Data Science, Econometrics, Economics, Social Sciences, or related disciplines
- Experience working with agricultural datasets, farming systems, or commodity supply chains
- Exposure to coffee or cocoa value chains is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
