Overview
In this role you will perform preventive maintenance and fault diagnosis on electrical, mechanical and control systems for contract customers, with a focus on MOJ/HMP and other security clients. You will liaise with customers to discuss maintenance or project work and maintain strong relationships to promote Bilfinger’s brand. You will troubleshoot, install, commission and modify control equipment, including PLC and MCC panels, while ensuring minimal client disruption and compliance with safety standards. This is a hands-on, team-oriented role that supports continuous service delivery and on-site problem resolution.
Responsibilities
- Carry out preventive maintenance checks at customer sites and inspect control equipment
- Diagnose and rectify faults on electrical, mechanical and control systems
- Modify PLC and MCC control panels, including fault finding
- Liaise with customers on technical aspects of maintenance visits or projects
- Report maintenance activities promptly to the manager and suggest solutions for unresolved issues
- Maintain good relationships with customers’ engineers and promote Bilfinger’s brand
- Identify equipment concerns and propose improvements or part requirements
- Support and train new starters on service activities
- Keep security vetting up to date for MOJ, NHS, Police, Nuclear clients
- Ensure minimum client interruption during issue resolution and on-site testing and commissioning
- Access company intranet/file server remotely for work-related needs
- Demonstrate proactive, hands-on, team-oriented approach and client interaction
- Follow market developments in area of expertise
- Attend to other duties including testing and on-site installation/commissioning of control systems
Key requirements
- Experience as a service/maintenance engineer in electrical, mechanical or control systems
- Ability to troubleshoot over the phone or on-site and resolve issues with minimal disruption
- Knowledge of electrical installation, commissioning and fault finding
- Experience with PLC and MCC control panels
- Ability to communicate with customers and engineers
- Security vetting requirements up to date for MOJ, NHS, Police, Nuclear clients
