Bilfinger UK are looking for a Welding Engineer to join us at Hinkley Point C on a permanent staff basis. This role will be based on site Monday to Friday 40 hours a week.
- Welding Engineering & Technical Support
- Provide technical oversight for all welding activities related to pipework installation.
- Ensure welding operations are performed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and project requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to welding supervisors, inspectors, and site teams.
- Support the resolution of welding‑related technical issues during construction.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, weld maps, and welding requirements.
- Attend training and education events, including seminars to understand the latest developments in welding to apply to the project.
- Complete any other duties as assigned by the Senior Welding Engineer.
- Welding Procedure Development & Qualification
- Support the development, review, and approval of welding procedures (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
- Oversee test pieces procurement & machining, technique development, PWHT & mechanical testing.
- Ensure welding procedures meet applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Coordinate welding procedure qualification testing where required.
- Maintain records of approved welding procedures and ensure they are correctly implemented on site.
- Implement new technology and welding processes to aid in improving production.
- Quality Assurance & Weld Control
- Ensure welding activities comply with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and project quality requirements.
- Monitor weld quality performance including weld rejection rates and defect trends.
- Support the investigation and resolution of welding defects and non‑conformances.
- Work closely with QA/QC inspectors to ensure proper inspection and testing of welds.
- Support production to resolve welding issues.
- Perform weld investigations.
- Materials & Metallurgy Control
- Ensure correct welding consumables and materials are used in accordance with approved procedures.
- Provide technical advice regarding material compatibility, preheat requirements, and heat treatment where applicable.
- Support control of welding consumables including storage, handling, and traceability.
- Evaluate materials and problem‑solving techniques to overcome issues with design drawings or work pack requirements.
- Construction & Installation Support
- Provide welding engineering support to construction teams during installation activities.
- Ensure welding operations are effectively integrated with construction sequencing and site operations.
- Assist site in resolving technical installation issues related to welding.
- Oversee the machinery used by the welding team, including calibration, testing performance, and condition of installed mechanical equipment.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote safe welding practices in accordance with project health and safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with site safety standards including hot work requirements and permit systems.
- Participate in safety briefings, inspections, and incident investigations where required.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor welding productivity and performance metrics.
- Analyse welding data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide technical input into project progress reports.
- Maintain records relating to welding performance, inspection results, and defect analysis.
- Stakeholder & Interface Management
- Work closely with construction supervisors, QA/QC inspectors, planners, and logistics teams.
- Liaise with client representatives and third‑party inspectors regarding welding activities and compliance.
- Support coordination between engineering, construction, and quality teams.
