The Role: dynamic and enthusiastic individual who must be able to turn their hand to multiple complex projects and quickly adapt to changing situations and scope. Strong communication skills: must be able to effectively convey complicated problems and solutions to the project team and the client, both orally and written. Attitude: must have a positive and can-do attitude, will be working as part of a tight knit, growing and diverse team. Confident: must be confident in their ability to overcome a wide range of challenges, and keen to become confident using new and cutting-edge technologies. Organised: must have an organised approach to project work, including strict revision control and documentation aptitude.
Key Responsibilities
- Design packs: oversee the development of clear and concise drawing and document packs and review existing packs with a keen eye for detail.
- Calculations: carry out and review cable calculations, I.S Loop Calculations (DSDs), AC and DC load schedules, lighting calculations and thermal capacity calculations, and ensure their accuracy.
- Check and Approve: check and approve other design engineer’s work with a keen eye for detail to guide them on how to improve. Also liaise with external approvers and appraisers to incorporate comments.
- Advise: Use your garnered knowledge to train and advise the other EC&I design engineers on engineering principals and guidelines. Attend client meetings and be comfortable representing the company when face to face with clients.
- Bridge the gap: Work closely with the site-based engineers and commissioning engineers to continuously improve our standards and help the design team to view their projects from multiple perspectives, including maintenance, shipping, and decommissioning.
- Process improvement: build a clear image of the existing processes and offer improvements and suggestions.
- Commissioning: Advise the commissioning team during pre-FAT and FAT with any EC&I related issues.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must have at least 10 years’ experience – ideally degree qualified or time-served apprenticeship.
- Must have demonstrable experience working on designs for hazardous areas installations and must have CompEX EX01-EX04 and/or EX12 modules.
- Knowledge and experience on gas analytical and metering systems is highly advantageous.
- Must have experience and knowledge of electrical installations in accordance with BS7671 (18th Edition).
