Role Purpose
The Construction Manager will lead and coordinate mechanical and piping installation activities within the NSSS (Nuclear Steam Supply System) scope at HPC. This role ensures safe, high‑quality, and timely execution of construction works, providing day‑to‑day leadership to supervisors, contractors, and craft teams. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator with proven experience delivering complex mechanical installations in a highly regulated environment.
Main Responsibilities
- Leadership of construction activities: Direct and coordinate mechanical and piping installation works across all areas. Provide daily guidance to supervisors, inspectors, and trade personnel. Maintain a strong field presence to monitor progress, resolve issues, and support safe execution.
- Planning and coordination: Help develop/update the lookahead plans aligned with project schedule and milestones. Coordinate interfaces with other disciplines, contractors, and client representatives. Ensure materials, equipment, and resources are available to meet installation targets.
- Safety, quality, and compliance: Champion a robust nuclear safety culture and enforce Bilfinger and HPC safety standards. Ensure all works comply with QA/QC requirements, technical specifications, and regulatory expectations. Lead toolbox talks, risk assessments, and method statement reviews.
- Progress monitoring and reporting: Track installation progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation actions. Provide clear daily and weekly reporting to the Site Manager. Support change management, NCR resolution, and documentation control.
- Stakeholder engagement: Build strong working relationships with EDF, Tier 1 contractors, and internal teams. Represent Bilfinger professionally in coordination meetings and site walkdowns.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Must have level 6 in Construction management and/or Level 7 Senior Construction management.
- Proven experience in mechanical and piping installation within large‑scale industrial or energy projects (nuclear experience highly advantageous).
- Strong leadership background managing construction teams in a complex, multi‑contractor environment with 100+ FTE.
- Solid understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and installation best practices.
- Familiarity with nuclear safety culture, quality standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with a proactive, problem‑solving mindset.
- Relevant trade or engineering qualification (HNC/HND or degree preferred).
