Bilfinger UK are recruiting an experienced Mechanical Installation Superintendent to lead the delivery of all mechanical plant and equipment installation activities on a major new-build construction project, working in close coordination with the piping installation scope. This role will be based full time on site at Hight view Powerstation in Carrington.
The role suits a mechanical specialist with proven large-project delivery experience across sectors such as Energy-from-Waste, Power, Hydrogen, Petrochemical, or Pharmaceutical, with strong subcontractor management credentials and the ability to interface seamlessly with piping, Rigging, Structural, and EC&I disciplines.
- Oversee all mechanical installation activities — boilers, vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, fans, conveyors, and major plant items — from delivery through to mechanical completion.
- Interface directly with the piping installation scope, ensuring sequencing, tie-ins, and connections are fully coordinated with the piping team.
- Manage and coordinate mechanical subcontractor companies, monitoring resourcing, productivity, quality, and adherence to programme.
- Lead alignment, levelling, and setting-to-work of plant items in line with vendor requirements and project specifications.
- Drive QA/QC and completions — ITP sign-off, walk-downs, punch lists, and production of mechanical handover packs to release systems for pressure testing and commissioning.
- Liaise daily with client engineering teams, vendors, design teams, and HSE officers to resolve technical and coordination issues.
- Maintain detailed weekly progress reports, KPI tracking, and labour/budget reviews for project leadership.
Proven Mechanical Installation Superintendent / Construction Manager experience on large-scale new-build construction projects. Demonstrable experience interfacing with and coordinating piping installation scopes on multi-discipline sites. Strong subcontractor management track record — leading multiple mechanical contractors through to mechanical completion. Solid QA/QC and completions background — ITPs, walk-downs, punch lists, and handover documentation. Recognised mechanical trade background; SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely or CCSNG. Energy-from-Waste, Power, Hydrogen, or Petrochemical project experience would be a distinct advantage. NEC 4 contract awareness and experience working under principal contractor / EPC arrangements.
