Metering technicians are responsible for carrying out planned and corrective maintenance and inspection activities on installation metering systems on the installation, including the assembly, installation, removal and replacement, disassembly, calibration of export and environmental metering instrumentation systems and their associated monitoring system and components. Metering technicians are required to have good technical knowledge and experience of instrumented systems and controls and the ability to locate and identify faults and discrepancies in a timely manner to restore plant and equipment to acceptable conditions and report mismeasurements and discrepancies to onshore metering engineers.
The wide range of possible equipment and systems also require a good knowledge of, and the ability to effectively use, an equally wide range of test and measuring equipment. Instrumentation & control technicians typically need a good understanding of engineering theory, the functions of components within systems and the effect on system operation of failure.
As a competent Metering Technician, your activities will include the following:
- Participate as part of an integrated maintenance team, carry out routine maintenance and inspection on fiscal, oil and gas flow measurement systems and associated equipment in a safe, timely and quality manner to maximise plant & equipment availability, maintain calibration integrity, and achieve business objectives.
- Sound knowledge and experience of fiscal metering systems technology and equipment, including turbine, ultrasonic, orifice plates and coriolis (where applicable).
- Determine and understand Metering Specific Calculations.
- Knowledge, understanding & application of metering specific calculations.
- Report metering mismeasurement.
- Read and interpret complex installation P&ID’s, PFD’s as part of routine maintenance and fault finding.
- Have the required competencies to assemble, install, carry out preventative maintenance, test, repair, diagnose faults and remove and replace, metering flow measurement systems and their associated system components.
- Understand the relevant legislative, regulatory requirements or procedures and safe working practices, including their responsibilities with regards to reporting lines and procedures.
- Apply approved isolations to process plant and record on isolation registers.
- Understand the preparation and reinstatement requirements in respect of the work area, materials and equipment, and the possible consequences of incorrect actions in these areas.
- Be able to read and interpret relevant engineering drawings, related specifications, quality standards and equipment manuals, and to follow work instructions and relevant plans and schedules.
- Understand which tools and equipment to use, and when, and will follow relevant training, methods and techniques and quality control and safety procedures for their use.
- Understand their responsibilities for ensuring the care and security of tools and equipment used.
- Diagnose function and test equipment on return to service.
- Assist other disciplines, 3rd party contractors and vendors, as required.
- Train and mentor apprentices/trainees.

- Min ONC/HNC SBT01/02 (valid)
- TMJI 10
