Biglight is an experience design agency focused on helping leading B2C and B2B brands create remarkable customer experiences that drive commercial impact. We combine UX, design, insight, and experimentation to unlock new value for our clients, including organisations like The North Face, ASDA and M S. We are a people business, powered by talented specialists who want to make a difference. We hire the very best people, regardless of background, and create an environment where they can grow while delivering exceptional work for our clients.

As a Lead Designer you will evolve and maintain a consistently high standard across digital product and UI design, brand expression, and creative production. Much of your work will be client focused, shaping and delivering design across multiple brands, platforms, and channels. You will also play a key role in evolving, rolling out and overseeing the application of Biglight's own brand identity to client-facing and internal communications. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will lead design output end-to-end, shaping concepts and creative direction, designing yourself, and guiding others to deliver their best.

You will collaborate closely with our Experience Design team and delivery teams, including PMs, analysts, and developers, to ensure design decisions are evidence-based, insight-driven, clear, scalable, buildable, and delivered to a high standard. You will also govern our brand guidelines and lead the creation and maintenance of design systems, applying best practice so work stays consistent, efficient, and easy to scale. There is potential for line management as this role develops.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

  • Lead visual design across projects for a range of clients, translating brand guidelines into strong digital experiences, and seeing work through to full designs.
  • Create, evolve, and maintain design systems, including component libraries, patterns, documentation, and accessibility considerations.
  • Design key work yourself, from user flows and high-fidelity UI through to creative assets that bring campaigns and brands to life across channels.
  • Work closely with the Experience Design team, and with delivery teams including PMs, analysts, and developers, to ensure solutions are user centred, buildable, and delivered with care and polish.
  • Contribute to proposals and pitches, helping define visual direction, producing creative visuals, motion design, or video where needed, and supporting accurate scoping and estimations so work is delivered on time and on budget.
  • Produce high quality designs for A/B tests and optimisation initiatives across CRO programmes when needed, designing variations that are clear, compelling, and measurable.
  • Respond to research and development briefs, iterating quickly while maintaining a high creative standard, and turning early ideas into tangible outputs.
  • Plan and lead the delivery of complex design engagements that strengthen our creative offering and differentiate our work, while staying grounded in objectives and delivery realities.
  • Confidently support other designers in the team through feedback, coaching, and hands on example, with potential to take on line management responsibilities as the role develops.

SKILLS WE ADMIRE

  • Thoughtful, down to earth, constructive, and empathetic, you are someone people enjoy working with.
  • Bring positive energy and a sense of humour, you do not take yourself too seriously, and you work without ego.
  • Dependable and take ownership, people trust you to follow through and deliver.
  • You care about craft and polish, and you are willing to roll up your sleeves to get work over the line when deadlines tighten.
  • Lead by setting direction, giving clear feedback, and raising the standard through your own work.
  • Challenge constructively, knowing when to push and when to pick your battles.
  • Stay calm under pressure and keep teams aligned when priorities shift.

Requirements

  • Eight+ years' experience in digital and visual design, with a portfolio demonstrating high quality UI design, brand application, and creative production across multiple channels.
  • Proven experience leading UI design on client projects, including digital redesigns and translating brand guidelines into cohesive, usable digital experiences.
  • Strong design systems capability, with experience creating, maintaining, and scaling component libraries and patterns, and an understanding of best practice in documentation, accessibility, and handover.
  • Excellent visual design craft, including typography, layout, composition, and art direction, with a high bar for polish and consistency.
  • Confident collaborating with UX, PMs, analysts, and developers, able to balance user needs, technical constraints, and delivery timelines.
  • Experience contributing to proposals and pitches, able to help define visual direction, support accurate scoping and estimates, and produce standout visuals, motion design, or video where needed.
  • Comfortable delivering design for optimisation, including A/B tests and CRO initiatives, designing clear variations with a focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Experience responding to fast moving briefs and research and development style work, able to iterate quickly while maintaining a high creative standard.
  • Proven ability to present to clients and stakeholders, explain design rationale clearly, and manage feedback constructively.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting designers through coaching, critique, and example, with potential to move into line management responsibilities over time.
  • Highly organised, adaptable, and dependable, able to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, producing clear outputs across design files, guidelines, documentation, and stakeholder updates.
