Biggleswade Academy is looking to appoint a reliable and hardworking General Kitchen Assistant to join our school catering team. This is an important role supporting the smooth running of the kitchen and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serving meals to pupils during lunch service
  • Operation of the Academy cashless catering system to ensure the children all receive their allocated meal
  • Heavy-duty washing up of kitchen equipment, catering tins, utensils, and crockery
  • Clearing down kitchen and service areas after meal service
  • Carrying out end-of-day checks to ensure the kitchen is left clean, safe, and secure
  • Correct use of cleaning cloths, colour‑coding systems, and cleaning chemicals
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen and service floors
  • Emptying rubbish and ensuring waste is disposed of correctly
  • Adhering to food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations at all times
  • To undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as required by the Kitchen Manager

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Be hardworking, reliable, and able to work as part of a team
  • Have a good understanding of cleanliness and hygiene standards (training can be provided)
  • Be able to carry out physically demanding tasks
  • Have a positive attitude and take pride in their work
  • Experience in a kitchen or cleaning environment is desirable but not essential

Hours: 10 hours a week (11:30am - 1:30pm Monday - Friday) - term time only (to include 3 INSED days and 1 open evening per year).

Salary: NJC 1C point 2 (£12.65 per hour).
