The Academy is looking to recruit an Assistant Kitchen Manager/Cook to support our Kitchen Manager and to join the hardworking team. The successful candidate will work effectively in a busy and hectic environment, be a team player, have an outgoing personality and be able to cook as required.

Responsibilities

  • Day to day supervision of a small kitchen team, under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager.
  • Ensure that hygiene procedures and health and safety standards are maintained in both the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure that all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately.
  • Prepare, cook and serve food ensuring a friendly customer service approach.
  • Organise menus in conjunction with the Kitchen Manager to provide a balanced, nutritious diet using available fresh foods.
  • Maintain accurate records of food supplies and freezer/fridge temperatures.
  • Manage stock rotation and keep the storeroom tidy and organised.
  • Prepare food orders, check deliveries, weights, quality and temperature of foods, keeping all relevant paperwork neat and orderly.
  • Report to the Kitchen Manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or potential hazards.
  • Work with the Kitchen Manager to ensure ‘deep cleaning’ activities are carried out to Academy standards on three designated non-pupil attendance days.
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence as required.
  • Attend mandatory training days/courses on or off site as required.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the health and safety policy, and emergency and fire procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding school-related matters and prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.

Qualifications

  • Basic Food Hygiene certificate and NVQ level 2 or above preferred.

Hours & Benefits

  • 27.5 hours per week – 9 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Friday.
  • Term time plus 3 INSET days and 1 evening per annum.
  • Salary: NJC Level 3B, point 6 (£13.47 per hour).
  • Permanent contract.

Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS (Disclosure Barring Service). In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, online searches will be undertaken for all prospective shortlisted candidates.
