We are looking for a highly experienced Health & Safety Manager to take full ownership of the Health, Safety and Environmental function within a fast-paced, project-driven business. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can operate at both strategic and operational level, driving real change and embedding best practice across the organisation.
You will be responsible for building, maintaining and enforcing a robust safety management system, ensuring legal compliance, reducing risk, and creating a culture where health and safety is integral to everything that is done.
Key Responsibilities- Own and lead the Health & Safety strategy across all sites, projects and operations
- Ensure full compliance with UK H&S legislation including HASWA, CDM, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER and RIDDOR
- Develop, implement and maintain H&S policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews
- Write, review and approve risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, producing detailed reports and corrective actions
- Track trends and performance using KPIs and provide clear reporting to senior leadership
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and targeted H&S training
- Manage external audits and liaise with enforcing authorities when required
- Support project and operational teams to ensure safety is designed into all activities from planning stage
- Drive behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or equivalent senior H&S role
- Background in construction, engineering, manufacturing or similar high-risk environments
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) is essential
- IOSH Chartered Member (CMIOSH) or working towards preferred
- Strong working knowledge of UK H&S law and best practice
- Confident in challenging unsafe practices and influencing senior stakeholders
- Highly organised, detail-driven and capable of working autonomously
- Comfortable being site-based and operational, not just office-led
- Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience
