Our client is seeking a capable and hands-on Finance Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations within a growing construction business (sub £25m turnover). The role will be largely autonomous, working closely with senior leadership and directly supporting the Managing Director on all financial matters. This is a key position for someone confident in setting up, running, and improving financial systems, with strong knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) and experience within the construction sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day finance function of the business with a high level of autonomy
  • Support the Managing Director with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Oversee all aspects of CIS, including verification, deductions, and submissions
  • Maintain accurate management accounts and financial records
  • Process and review supplier payments, subcontractor invoices, and payroll-related transactions
  • Reconcile bank accounts and monitor cash flow
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and management information packs
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and wider financial regulations
  • Set up and improve financial processes, controls, and systems as the business grows
  • Liaise with external accountants and advisors as required

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in a similar finance role within construction or a related sector
  • Solid understanding and practical experience of CIS (essential)
  • Experience working in or supporting a business up to £25m turnover
  • Ability to operate independently and take full ownership of the finance function
  • Strong Excel and accounting software skills (e.g. Sage, Xero, or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to work directly with senior management

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience setting up or improving finance systems and processes
  • Knowledge of subcontractor-heavy environments
  • Experience with project-based accounting
