A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an established and highly successful Tier 2 Main Contractor that has experienced significant growth over recent years and continues to strengthen its position within the UK construction market. With an impressive pipeline of secured work and a reputation for delivering complex, high-value schemes, my client is now looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility for a landmark £80m Mixed-Use Development in Cambridge. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, this is a key appointment within the business and offers the opportunity to play a leading role on one of the region's most significant developments.
This role will suit a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and has the confidence and experience to manage the entire commercial function of a major project with minimal support.
The Role
- Full commercial ownership of an £80m mixed-use development
- Procurement and management of subcontractor packages
- Cost planning, budgeting and forecasting
- Preparation and submission of valuations and applications for payment
- Change management and valuation of variations
- Commercial reporting and financial performance monitoring
- Cash flow management and project forecasting
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Negotiation and agreement of final accounts
- Liaising closely with operational teams, clients and supply chain partners
- Providing regular commercial updates to the Commercial Director
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a Main Contractor
- Demonstrable experience delivering major construction projects valued in excess of £30m
- Strong understanding of commercial management throughout the project lifecycle
- Experience managing large subcontract packages and complex procurement strategies
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a project's commercial performance
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (preferred)
Essential Experience
To be considered for this position, candidates must have previous experience working for a Tier 2 or Tier 3 Main Contractor. The successful individual will be someone who can stand on their own two feet, make informed commercial decisions, and confidently lead the commercial function on a major project without requiring significant day-to-day support.
