Solution Architect (Application Rationalisation) - Azure/Salesforce/SAP Commerce Cloud/Databricks

A well known national builders merchant is recruiting a Solution Architect for a major application rationalisation programme, consolidating a large and fragmented Legacy estate onto a defined set of strategic platforms.
This is a hands-on architecture role with genuine decommissioning targets, not a governance seat.
You will own the target state and transition architecture, define the integration and data approach, and sequence the retirement of Legacy applications.
Target Platform Landscape
Kerridge (ERP), Salesforce Sales, Service and Marketing Cloud (CRM), SAP Commerce Cloud with OCC APIs (e Commerce), Microsoft Azure and Azure Integration Services, Databricks and Power BI, Workday (HCM), Service Now (ITSM), Entra ID and Okta (Identity), Mendix (Low Code), Celonis (Process Intelligence and Automation), Microsoft 365 and Teams Premium, Microsoft Sentinel and Splunk Enterprise Security (SIEM), Bottomline PTX and SPS Global (Payments and Billing), Cisco Meraki (Connectivity).
PIM (build versus buy), EDI (live RFP), Payroll and Mobile Development Platform remain open decisions that you will help shape.
Key Responsibilities
- Map the current estate covering applications, interfaces, data flows, cost, technical debt and business criticality.
- Produce target state and transition architectures with a clear disposition per application: retain, replace, re-platform or retire.
- Define the integration architecture across ERP, CRM, e Commerce and the data platform using API led and event driven patterns.
- Own the data migration and master data approach into Databricks and the strategic PIM.
- Sequence decommissioning including dependency analysis, cutover design, rollback and data archival.
- Produce HLDs and architecture decision records and take them through governance.
- Provide solution assurance over vendor and systems integrator designs.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven Solution Architect experience on application rationalisation, consolidation or post merger integration at enterprise scale.
- Strong integration architecture background with Azure Integration Services (APIM, Logic Apps, Service Bus, Functions).
- Depth in at least two of: ERP, Salesforce, SAP Commerce Cloud, Databricks.
- Microsoft Azure cloud architecture including migration patterns and landing zone context.
- Hands on Legacy decommissioning experience including dependency mapping and cutover planning.
- Able to document designs clearly and justify decisions with cost and risk evidence.
Desirable
- Merchanting, distribution, wholesale, retail or trade sales sector background.
- Multi branch and multi-site operational estates.
- TOGAF or equivalent, plus enterprise architecture tooling.
- Celonis or process mining exposure.

- Rate: £500 per day, Inside IR35 (umbrella).
- Duration: 12 months initially, with scope to extend to 24 months.
- Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Midlands or North West offices.
- Start: ASAP.
