We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Team. The role supports the day-to-day financial operations of the business across accounts payable, stock accounting, reporting, and month-end processes. This role is ideal for a part-qualified ACCA or CIMA accountant who enjoys a hands-on environment and wants to build commercial finance experience within a creative, fast-paced business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily processing of overhead and stock purchase invoices, ensuring correct coding and approvals in line with Big Potato's internal controls.
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements and resolution of invoice queries.
  • Processing staff expenses and company credit cards, ensuring appropriate authorisation and approvals are provided.
  • Preparation of weekly UK and international payment runs.
  • Ownership of stock-related accounting, including processing factory invoices and checking purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Timely inbounding of goods within the finance system to ensure accurate stock records.
  • Preparation and completion of annual stock reconciliations, working closely with internal stakeholders.
  • Maintenance of the fixed and intangible asset registers, ensuring they are accurate and up to date.
  • Calculation and posting of monthly depreciation and amortisation.
  • Preparation of weekly online and e-commerce sales reports.
  • Monitoring profit and loss expenditure and supporting budget holders to review spend vs budget.
  • Preparation of gross profit reports.
  • Preparation of balance sheet and month-end schedules to support the management accounts process.
  • Supporting the year-end audit, liaising with auditors and responding to audit queries.
  • Providing cover for accounts receivable activities as required, including customer invoicing, credit control and royalty reporting.
  • Supporting continuous improvement of finance processes and systems as the business grows.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Part-qualified ACCA or CIMA (or actively studying toward qualification).
  • Experience as a finance assistant or similar role.
  • Strong grounding in transactional finance, including accounts payable, reconciliations and expenses.
  • Experience supporting month-end and management accounting processes.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confident Excel skills and experience working with finance systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a product-based, consumer goods, retail or stock-driven business.
  • Exposure to e-commerce or international sales reporting.
  • Experience working with auditors.

  • Organised, proactive and comfortable navigating multiple priorities.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working with non-finance colleagues.
  • Curious and commercially minded, with an interest in how finance supports the wider business.
