About Big Penny: Big Penny Social is a community and event hospitality company based in Walthamstow. Our flagship venue, Big Penny Social, embodies everything we are about. It’s a pub, arts centre and town square rolled into one - a huge building that brings friends, family and the community together. Open every day for a pint or a pizza, there’s always something going on thanks to our programme of entertainment and events; from markets to comedy, live music, parties, and everything in between. In mid 2025 we also opened Flukes, a stylish competitive socialising space within Big Penny Social.

Who we’re looking for: To support our growth, we’re looking for a hugely creative Senior Social and Content Manager. This role will suit you if you have significant demonstrable experience in building social channels for a consumer brand, ideally within hospitality, entertainment, leisure, venues, ticketing or similar. You will bring proven experience originating and producing (not just editing) high-impact paid and organic content across TikTok and Instagram, balancing creative innovation with strong commercial performance. On application, we’d love to see examples of your work, so please send us links to content you’ve created and/or shot yourself.

About the role: The Senior Social & Content Manager owns the creative direction, content creation and growth of our social channels for Big Penny Social and Flukes, with a primary focus on Instagram and TikTok. This is a senior, hands-on creative role with real autonomy. You’ll set direction, test ideas and make decisions, with support from the Head of Brand & Marketing. While you’ll be highly involved in filming, editing and posting content, you’ll also shape the bigger picture — defining how our brands show up day to day. The role is primarily focused on organic content, with responsibility for leading creative alignment across paid and organic social, working closely with the Head of Marketing and our paid social agency. Above all, this role defines our social voice — building community, driving engagement, supporting ticket sales and bringing the personality of Big Penny Social and Flukes to life online.

Channels you’ll own:

  • Define and evolve the brand voice for Big Penny Social and Flukes
  • Develop clear content pillars and long-term direction across channels
  • Lead how our tone shows up day to day — playful, heartfelt, community driven and unmistakably us

Campaigns & commercial support:

  • Lead social-first approaches to supporting ticket sales, events and F&B offers
  • Develop creative campaign ideas for launches, seasonal moments and key dates
  • Balance promotion with brand storytelling so we never feel sales-led but also still support our targets
  • Own and set the social strategy across Instagram and TikTok
  • Lead growth across reach, engagement and followers through platform-native content
  • Use performance insight to continually refine approach and direction

Content creation:

  • Lead short-form video creation (Reels & TikTok) from concept to execution
  • Film, edit and publish content that captures the energy, people and moments that make Big Penny special
  • Regularly capture content on site during events, service and key moments
  • Stay close to trends and platform changes, applying them in a way that feels authentic and on-brand
  • Confidently be the face or voice of the brand where content calls for it
  • Own day-to-day posting, scheduling and channel health
  • Lead community engagement across comments and DMs
  • Ensure channels are consistently active, relevant and reflective of what’s happening on site
  • Lead creative collaboration with our paid social agency
  • Shape creative ideas, assets and messaging for paid activity alongside the Marketing Manager
  • Ensure organic content meaningfully feeds paid performance without losing authenticity

Storytelling & partnerships:

  • Find innovative ways to tell the story of our venues, events and community work
  • Lead how third-party events are represented on our channels while staying true to our brand
  • Create clear, simple content guidelines to support partners and promoters
  • Contribute to future influencer and UGC strategy development

Reporting:

  • Provide insight-led reporting and recommendations to inform wider marketing decisions

What success looks like:

  • Social channels that feel alive, warm and confidently led
  • A clear, intentional balance between storytelling and selling
  • Strong audience engagement on socials starts to translate into footfall and ticket sales
  • Engagement metrics rise across all of our channels
  • A clear shift in brand perception: Big Penny is a venue with heart, community at its core and always something fun and eccentric happening

About you: You’ll likely have:

  • 3–5 years’ experience running social channels in a hands-on, senior capacity
  • Strong short-form video and content creation skills
  • A sharp eye for quality, detail and consistency
  • A solid understanding of organic and paid social and how they work together
  • Experience balancing brand storytelling with commercial goals

We use CapCut Pro, Canva and Adobe Photoshop, but great ideas and strong execution matter most.

Skills & attributes:

  • Naturally creative with strong ideas and vision
  • Comfortable leading from the front — in front of and behind the camera
  • A people person with warmth, humour and confidence
  • Curious, experimental and happy to test and learn
  • Chronically online, with a strong instinct for what trends are worth doing

The package: A competitive salary of £45–47k (pro rata) for 33–40 hours per week. You’ll join a friendly, collaborative marketing team with flexibility around hours and hybrid working, plus the chance to shape the future of a much-loved local venue with real creative freedom.
